Promthep Cape

Promthep Cape

Promthep Cape is Phuket's most iconic viewpoint, perched at the island's southernmost tip. Located about 20 minutes from Rawai Beach, this dramatic headland offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Andaman Sea.

Promthep Cape (Laem Promthep) is the southernmost point of Phuket Island, renowned for its spectacular sunsets and panoramic views of the Andaman Sea. Every evening, visitors arrive by tour buses, scooters, and private cars to witness one of Thailand's most photographed sunsets. The rocky headland features viewpoints, a historic lighthouse, and a peaceful Buddhist shrine, making it one of Phuket's must-visit destinations.

The cape is open 24 hours daily with free admission and free parking, though sunset time (around 6:00-6:30 PM) draws the largest crowds.

When to Visit

  • Sunset (Best Time): Arrive 30-45 minutes before sunset to secure a good viewing spot and watch the sky transform into shades of gold, orange, and pink.

  • Early Morning: For a peaceful experience with fewer crowds and beautiful sunrise views.

  • Avoid Peak Hours: Weekends and holidays can be very crowded, especially during high season (November-April).

The best times are during sunrise and sunset for the most breathtaking views, or early mornings and weekdays for a less crowded experience.

What to Experience

Sunset Viewing The main attraction is the stunning sunset over the Andaman Sea. Find your spot on the viewing platforms or rocky outcrops and watch the sun dip below the horizon - a truly magical moment.

Phra Phrom Shrine At the base of the cape, you'll find Phra Phrom Square, a Brahma shrine encircled with elephant statues - a beautiful and peaceful spot for reflection and photos.

Coastal Walks Explore the rocky pathways along the cape's edge for different viewpoints and photo opportunities. The rugged cliffs and crashing waves create a dramatic natural setting.

Shopping & Refreshments Small shops near the lighthouse sell souvenirs, local crafts, and refreshments, open from 8 AM to 7 PM. Perfect for picking up a memento or enjoying a cold drink while taking in the views
